Highlights of the Year

  • Prof. Yasser Mansour was invited as a member of the scientific committee of :13th   International Conference on Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures, 26-28 May, 2021, Rome, Italy. ERES 2021 (wessex.ac.uk)

  • Prof. Yasser Mansour was invited as a review panel member of the NCAAA accreditation of Landscape Architecture Program at King Abdulaziz University, November 2020.

  • Dr. Tamer Sebeay was invited as a guest editor in the special issue of Polymers (a Q1 ISI and Scopus international Journal).

  • Dr. Mohamed Ezzat was invited as a member of scientific committee of the international conference GEO-EXTREME 2021 organized by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

  • In cooperation with Deltares headquartered in Delft, Netherlands and the American society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structures and Materials (S&M) Research Lab at the College of Engineering (PSU) organized a research seminar titled: SUSTAINABLE PEDESTRIAN MOBILITY on Thursday, October 22, 2020. The seminar introduced highly reputed speakers with vast experiences in the field; Dr. K. N. Gunalan (ASCE President, and Senior Vice President at AECOM, USA), Mr. Dan Wagner (Assistant Director in the NYC Dept. of Transportation's Pedestrian Unit), Dr. Mohamed Ezzat (Assistant Professor at the College of Engineering, PSU), Dr. Margreet van Marle (Consultant of Wildfires and Climate Resilience at Deltares, Netherlands), and Mr. Remon Pot (Head of Resilient Networks Department at Deltares, Netherlands).

  • Dr. Mohamed Ezzat and his team developed a soil mechanics virtual lab platform named: Geotechnica to assist students and the geotechnical engineers to accurately perform the essential in-situ and laboratory soil tests. The software also provides the theoretical principals required to determine the needed soil parameters for geotechnical works, foundation design, and numerical analysis. Geotechnica interface is designed to be a user-friendly platform that enables distinguish levels of precision and efficiency for even the Labs management systems.

  • Total number of publications for S&M Lab members is 25 publications (24 SCOPUS indexed journal publications, 21 ISI indexed journal publications + 3 SCOPUS conference publications).

  • S&M Lab maintained a research collaboration with Saudi Aramco (KSA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Deltares research firm (Netherland), Queen's University Belfast (UK), University of Limerick (Ireland), KAUST (KSA), and United Arab Emirate University (UAE).

  • S&M lab has organized the 1st online workshop for numerical and finite element analysis in geotechnical engineering. This workshop was presented by Dr Mohamed Ezzat and offered for Free to MSc and Ph D students across the globe. The content of this workshop is accredited by Midas soft Co and by the end of these online sessions, attendees received a certified training certificate approved by MIDAS co and Prince sultan. The main purpose of this online session is to share knowledge and experiences, also to help young researchers to conduct qualified publications in the area of geotechnical engineering Ten MSc and PhD students from different countries Egypt, Oman, Germany, and China participated in this workshop.

  • S&M lab has organized the Training course: The Building Information Modeling (BIM): Revit(3D) & Navisworks(4D+5D), 30 hours (02 June - 2 July). Also, the PSU LEED GA/AP Combined Exam Preparation Course, 24 hours (14 Oct - 2 Nov). The main instructor of those course was Eng. Tae Yai.
